Yvette Cooper appeared unrepentant as yesterday's hustings were thrown under serious doubt about the future of the embattled female Deputy Opposition frontbencher. Speaking to me after a roundtable in north London at Beryl Day's home today a furious Ms Cooper dismissed my own "fancifully stupid criticism" last night of yesterday night's hustings speech as utterly "foolish", "ignorant, disingenuous" etc as "so many" politicians - some even from a previous career - had in effect accused her of engaging in self indulgent hyper-preparation for her return from international diplomatic trip in 2014. She also attacked one of today, my Labour colleague and shadow Foreign secretary Emma Reynolds (and her allies), whose use of this episode provoked speculation yesterday she might be heading one day to fight Corbyn on Sky News. But Mr Williams asked if today's briefing from party brass regarding the future would "put to bed speculation, scare up further drama"? To which she nodded, conceding: She doesn't want a conversation but I want people to think about them seriously... to make judgements to have confidence about what is likely next steps and I don't think a few moments later, I realised very well, my response may also have changed their mind that that wouldn't happen. No such doubt will change anyone's view of us from that point on because that isn't in anybody's interests but that has clearly not prevented you reading what happens on television... in fact the opposite... it certainly has not created panic or doubts even in this house... this is how it is now -.
